What Redding dies do I need for my 6mm BR Remington / or 6mm BR Norma?

While slight variations in chamber dimensions exist between these two versions of the 6mm BR, Redding Dies currently marked “6mm BR Norma” are appropriate for both.  Variations in rifling twist rate, throat length, and lead angle do not affect die function or performance.

Small Base Dies

Benchrest chambers are often intentionally made “tight” at the base for better case-to-chamber fit.  In some cases, it is necessary to use a Small Base Resizing Die so that the case is resized sufficiently to chamber freely.

Tight Neck Chambers

Chambers with a “tight neck” often require case neck turning / case neck reaming to reduce case neck thickness.  It is important to make sure that there is clearance between the neck of the loaded round and the neck area of the chamber so that the case neck can expand and safely release the bullet when fired.  Any trouble in chambering is a caution flag!  If possible, compare the neck diameter measurement of a fired case from your chamber with those of a loaded round.  The neck diameter of the fired case should be a minimum of .003” larger than the unfired one.  If in doubt, consult a competent gunsmith.

Type-S Dies and Competition Bushing Neck Dies

It is sometimes necessary to turn / ream case necks such that a conventional FL or NK Die will not resize the case neck enough to provide adequate neck tension.  If more case neck resizing is needed or desired, a Type-S Bushing Style Die or Competition Bushing Neck Die using Neck Sizing Bushings can be used to accommodate this brass and provide the desired neck tension.

How should I clean my dies?

It is recommended to clean your dies with bore solvent and a brass or nylon bore brush. Remove any remaining solvent with a few clean patches and apply a light coat of case lubricant with a q-tip when finished.

NOTE: Some bore solvents have specific guidelines for how long the product should remain in a barrel or bore. See the manufacturer’s instructions and follow their recommendations so that the die(s) are not damaged.

Dies should be coated with a rust preventative before storage and kept in a climate controlled environment.

My Redding Bullet Seating Die is leaving a ring around the Ogive of my VLD Style Bullet, what should I do about this?

Redding has developed a Bullet Seating Micrometer that will replace the existing seating plug in your Conventional Redding Seating Die. They are available for bullets with standard profiles or VLD Style Bullets.

Why are carbide sizing dies not made for certain bottleneck and / or tapered cartridges?

While it is possible to produce carbide dies for tapered and bottleneck cartridges, the cost would be extremely prohibitive. Due to the tapered contact surfaces between the die and the cartridge case, lubrication is still required. Thus, the advantage of carbide is lost. Any advantage in die life is negated by the increased cost.

What Bushing do I need for my Type "S" Die?

See Tech Tips Section in the Redding Website.

The Neck Sizing Bushing that I use for my "Type S" Die is not sizing my case necks to the diameter written on the bushing. Is my bushing undersized / oversized?

See Tech Tips Section in the Redding Website

My Type "S" Die came with a black expander button that is too small to size the necks of my cases, what is this used for?

This item is called a Decapping Pin Retainer. As its name implies, it is designed to hold the decapping pin firmly in place while not sizing the case necks.

Do I need to use the expander button that came with my Type "S" Die?

It is advisable to use an expander button to maintain consistent neck tension if the case necks have not been turned to a uniform wall thickness. However, the expander button can be replaced with the Decapping Pin Retainer (included with your Type “S” Die) if the user does not wish to use an expander button.

What is Camover? And how do I adjust for it?

Can I size a loaded round in a Body Die?

No – Body Dies were not designed to resize loaded cartridges.

Can I load Compressed Loads with the Competition Seating Die?

No – the excess pressure will cause damage to the seating stem and internal sliding sleeve.

I have damaged my Decapping Rod / Decapping Pin, is this covered under Redding's Lifetime Warranty?

This damage usually happens when the user adjusts it incorrectly. If the Decapping Rod Assembly is adjusted so that the expander button hits the head of a case during the sizing operation, (adjusted too low) the Decapping Rod will bend or break.

The Decapping Rod Assembly should be adjusted so that the decapping pin protrudes from the bottom of the Die approximately 3/16 of an inch (about the thickness of two Nickels).

While not covered under Warranty, Redding Reloading will happily replace one (1) Decapping Rod for a customer who damages theirs. Subsequent Decapping Rod Assemblies can be purchased from a Redding Dealer or from us directly.

Note: this does not apply to the Competition Neck Sizing Die. Competition Neck Sizing Dies must be sent to Redding Reloading for any repair work.

My Decapping Rod keeps falling out of my Decapping Rod, is my decapping rod broken?

No, your Decapping Rod is not broken. To remedy the situation, remove the Expander Button and Decapping Pin and squeeze the “jaw” that holds the pin gently with pliers. Now, install the decapping pin (this may require some force) and the Expander Button.

Does Redding manufacture a Decapping Pin for use with small Flash Holes?

Yes, these small pins (10 Packs – Part# 01059) are available from most Redding Dealers.

Should I clean my Redding Reloading Dies?

When it comes to proper function and avoiding scratched cases, cleanliness is crucial. A common method for cleaning your dies is to use the same procedures and solvents that you would use to clean the bore of your rifle or handgun. Brushing and copper solvents will remove any brass deposits that are building up inside the die. Once dies are properly cleaned, apply a light coat of gun oil before storage.

Does Redding make Reloading Dies for Custom Cartridges?

Redding has the largest library of Custom Dies in the industry. Please visit the Die Finder section of this website. If we do not have your cartridge on record, we may be able to quote it for you on a custom basis. Note: the quotation process often requires sending us a copy of your chamber reamer drawing and/or 5 fired cases from the firearm for examination.

Why do I need the new Z Series Dies?

Redding engineering has proven that the modern high performance cartridge designs of today are severely taxing the capabilities of traditional 7/8” reloading dies. The 7/8” diameter became the industry standard in the post WWII era, but today’s new cartridge designs provide numerous reasons to question that standard. In short, it is all about the strength of material, the stresses induced and the deformation that occurs in the die itself.

What are the benefits of the Z Series Dies?

  1. Due to the thickness in material, the new Z-Series Dies from Redding are considerably stronger than traditional 7/8” dies. This additional strength reduces deflection during the case resizing operation.
  2. Redding’s testing has shown the increased strength of 1” Dies greatly reduces sizing effort.
  3. The stronger Z Series Dies produce more uniform resized case dimensions. Every component of accuracy requires better uniformity

Do I need to purchase a new press to us the new Z Series Dies?

The new Redding Z Series Dies fit the majority of the popular single stage presses that are available on the market today.

Simply replacing the existing 7/8”-14 thread adapter with a 1”-14 thread adapter will allow you press to accept the new Z Series Dies (Redding Part # 70030).

If your bench is currently equipped with the legendary T-7 Turret Press, Redding is now offering (2) new turrets that will accept the Z Series Dies.

Reloading Presses

Does Redding reloading presses for metallic and shotgun cartridges?

No. Redding currently offers presses for reloading metallic cartridges only. Redding discontinued production of both the Model 16 and Model 32 Shotshell Reloading Presses many years ago.

How many different models of metallic cartridge reloading presses does Redding offer?

Redding offers (5) different Single Stage reloading presses. The Boss, Big Boss and Big Boss II are classic “O” Type reloading presses offering the strength and leverage needed for reloading a wide variety of cartridges.

Redding’s Ultramag Press is a very large Single Stage press with a huge frame opening of 4 ¾”. Its unique long link compound leverage system has more mechanical advantage over a greater distance than any other press on the market.

Redding also offers the legendary T-7 Turret Reloading press. With a (7) station turret and the flexibility to quickly change turrets to accept the new Z-Series Dies, many of our customers say “this is the best turret press ever.”

Can I reload rifle cartridges on the Boss Press?

The Boss Press is equally adept when loading rifle and / or handgun cartridges. With many features such as a rigid cast iron frame, 36° frame offset for best visibility and access, “Smart” primer arm, positive ram stop as well as powerful compound linkage; when it comes to “O” Type presses the Boss is a smart choice.

What is the difference between the Big Boss and the Big Boss II?

Both the Big Boss and Big Boss II presses have all the desirable features of the “Boss” reloading press but are built on heavier frames with a 1” diameter ram and longer 3.8” usable ram stroke for reloading the largest magnum cartridges.

The Big Boss II features the Redding’s unique“ Spent Primer Collection System” that is also used on the T-7 and Ultramag presses.

Will the new Z-Series Dies work on my Redding T-7 Turret Press?

Why do my loaded rounds fit in my rifle’s chamber, but, will not fit a Case Gauge?

See Tech Tips Section in the Redding Website.

What is the “Instant Indicator” used for?

The “Instant Indicator can perform multiple tasks including:

  • Check uniformity of shoulder bump
  • Compare shoulder position of sized cases to fired cases
  • Check bullet seating depth uniformity
  • Sort cases fired in two or more rifles
  • Sort sized cases for uniformity
  • Setup sizing die correctly
  • Check trim length uniformity
  • Sort bullets for uniformity

Is the Instant Indicator cartridge specific?

In most instances, the Instant Indicator may be used to compare headspace (shoulder position) on a “family” of cartridges of different caliber that share the same shoulder angle / body dimensions. For instance, the 243 Winchester, 260 Remington, 7mm-08 Remington, and 308 Winchester are identical dimensionally (excepting the neck/bullet diameter). As such, an instant indicator for any of the cartridges above can be utilized for comparing shoulder positions for this “family”.

Likewise, when the correct Bore Diameter Bushing is used, the same tool may be used for comparing bullet seating depth.

Can I purchase without the Dial Indicator?

Yes, the “Instant Indicator” can be purchased with or without the Dial Indicator.

Imperial Products

What products are included in the Imperial Lubricant Product Line?

Imperial Lubricants include: Bio-Green Case Lube, Imperial Dry Neck Lube & Application Media, Imperial Sizing Wax (white) and the Redding Brand Imperial Sizing Wax (green).

What is the difference between the Imperial Case Sizing Wax (white) and the Redding Brand Imperial Sizing Wax (green)?

Both Sizing Wax formulas are proprietary to Redding Reloading Equipment. The Redding Brand Imperial sizing Wax (Green) is true to the original LeClear product of the 70’s, has a slightly lower melting temperature vs the Imperial Case Sizing Wax (white) and is green in color.

How do I recharge my Imperial Dry Neck Lube Application Media?

Simply add a ¼ teaspoon of Imperial Dry Neck Lube to your Application Media, close the lid and shake gently. You are now ready to continue using the Application Media.
